Reds

Contention (definition; the act or an instance of striving in controversy or debate, an assertion put forward in argument) is 100% Zinfandel from this beautiful 80 year old head trained vineyard grown by Robert Lauchland. This vineyard is found on the Westside of the Lodi AVA. This Zinfandel is a perfect representation of the terrior of the Vineyard. Sultry and complex. Earth, Dust and Mineral are the major components of this unique Zinfandel.  Unfiltered with native fermentation.

The Abba Syrah is wonderfully  influenced by Lodi’s Southern Rhone climate. Full-bodied with softer tannins showing bright  jammy red fruit with notes of blueberry, spicy and candy. Red racy across the palate with soft lingering tannins. Native Fermentation. One hundred percent Syrah grown on the east side of Lodi’s AVA.

A fruit forward nose, with Cola, Tobacco and Dry Sandalwood. Through the palate this Zinfandel shows, Black Cherry, Raspberry, Hazelnut and finishes with soft tannins. This Zinfandel is balanced through the palate with just the right amount of acidity. Great time and effort was spent to produce a Zinfandel with complexity, mouth appeal and a finish that lingers.

Rous vineyard was planted in 1909 and is one of the first vineyards planted on St George root stock in the Lodi AVA. Very consistent yields of 2.5 tons per acts, year after year the Rous vineyard is our first Zinfandel vineyard picked. Showing very distinct  Eastside characteristics of floral nose with bright red fruit, red and racy though the palate.

An elegant vintage of Zinfandel form The Estate Vineyard “Lot 13” planted in 1915. This Estate grown Zinfandel is exhilarating showing you characteristics of Red and Black fruit. On the front Raspberry, Red Cherry come across the palate. Once this Zinfandel has moved to the back of your palate a show of Black Berry, Dark Plum and Date start to explode, all the time wrap with a rich Blueberry nose, Dry Sandalwood, soft Vanilla-edged Cherry/Huckleberry, bolstered by fine, tight-knit tannins.  Appellation: Lodi  Winemaker: Michael J McCay

The wine is quite dry but flavorful along the spiced and macerated red and black berry and plum range, and it’s powered by vibrant acidity for propulsive energy. Tannins, on the other hand, feeling carved from dusty underbrush, briers and brambles, are tranquil, deeply set and inexorable. 100 percent Grenache aged in neutral oak with native fermentation.  Appellation: Lodi,  Winemaker: Michael J McCay.

Dark ruby at the center with a bouquet offering scents of raspberries and blueberries permeated by notes of cloves, lavender and graphite, and then, very lightly, a sort of red cherry licorice-cigarette paper element that lends a welcome sense of delicacy.
